Eagle Quest of Nevada: Providing Youth Opportunities to Reach New Heights

As a nonprofit organization located in Las Vegas, Eagle Quest is dedicated to providing opportunities for disadvantaged youth to achieve their goals by becoming happy, healthy and productive citizens. Through the foster home program, day treatment and therapeutic services, high adventure activities and the Hero's Journey program, youth are provided with new experiences that teach invaluable life and outdoor skills that will help empower them to make better decisions in life.

What You'll Be Doing

Through the Hero's Journey Program, Field Specialists will use their experience, skills and knowledge to work with at-risk disadvantaged youth from the Las Vegas area in remote areas of southern Nevada. Staff members will be attached to a specific group of youth, who will be in the field for a six-week period. You will them work a seven day on, seven day off rotation. So there is continuity, relationship building and rapport between staff and youth in the field, this will repeat three times until the program has come to an end. There will be no outside access with the exception of a satellite phone used for emergencies and daily checks only.

While out in the field, you will assist with the following goals:

By removing youth from the negative peer environment and/or dysfunctional family situations, you will empower your group to reflect on life without adverse distractions.

Provide intense physical activity and outdoor skill development to help build each student's self-confidence and positive self-identity. This will include backpacking, hiking, climbing, knot tying, orienteering and first-aid skills.

Follow and teach a rigorous academic curriculum in writing and reading through journals, creative writing, stories and articles. Each student will receive high school credits through the Clark County School District.

Assist students to shed their old identity and begin to build a new one by teaching lessons in choice, accountability, teamwork, trust, responsibility, decision-making, self discipline, leadership and more.

Ensure progress through the Boy Scouts of America scouting program, with the goal of achieving First Class rank.

Check this out! In addition to field staff positions, a qualified Field Supervisor is needed. This individual will oversee all field staff, logistics and training. The successful candidate will be required to be in the field at different locations two nights per week.

Perks & Rewards

This is a full-time position paid at $200 per day for days in the field. At this time there are no other benefits, such as medical or a 401k.

Applicants must have a love for working with troubled, disadvantaged youth. A bachelor's degree or higher in a human services related field (education, counseling, recreation therapy, psychology, social work, criminal justice, etc.) is required. A military background is helpful.
