Broadreach offers 70+ summer adventure programs in 40+ countries throughout Central and South America, Europe, South Africa and Canada.
Each summer a unique team of highly qualified Wilderness Instructors is formed who lead, teach, role model, care for, inspire, and educate small groups of middle school, high school, and college aged students in places all over the world. Each Broadreach program has its own blend of discoveries and challenges, designed to take advantage of the unique character and opportunities of the region, while focusing on individual success and group dynamics. With programs led by a team of two Instructors, Leader responsibilities include facilitating positive group dynamics, participating in community service activities, assisting with the course curriculum, and leading games, outdoor and adventure activities, from surfing, snorkeling and kayaking to hiking, rafting and rock climbing. Applicants must have experience leading and facilitating groups in wilderness environments, solid experience leading activities offered on the course, conversational Spanish skills, WFR certification, and able to attend staff training in Raleigh, North Carolina from June 2-10, 2017. Construction Arts Instructor
The Kalu Yala Valley is located in the rainforest highlands of Central Panama in a 7,000-acre valley that backs up to the Chagres National Park. The main office and intern living quarters is in Panama City; San Miguel is the nearest village to the Kalu Yala property and many community outreach and education interns spend a significant amount of time here; and the Kalu Yala site is still completely off-the-grid, with access by four wheel drive vehicle only.
Interested in helping to create the world's most sustainable village? Kalu Yala is a new town being built in the tropical jungles of Panama to bring together entrepreneurs, artists, scientists and modern day romantics. The Construction Arts Instructor will lead 8-12 university level students for a 10-week semester, teaching them about construction, building and carpentry in an off-the-grid wilderness environment. You have experience with wooden post and beam construction, carpentry, basic or better masonry skills, and an interest in building with bamboo. You can work with limited supplies in a harsh environment and when you see trash you think endless opportunities and creative projects. Applicants must have 5+ years working in sustainable construction beyond your undergraduate degree in construction, architecture, engineering or related field (Master’s degree/PhD preferred).
