The Georgia 4-H Environmental Education Program, pioneered by Diane Davies at Rock Eagle 4-H Center in 1979, has drawn over 80,000 participants to Wahsega 4-H Center since the program expanded to include the center over 25 years ago.Discover mountain air, clear streams, rugged trails, rustic cabins, great food and an extraordinary staff in the North Georgia mountains, and experience being part of the Georgia 4-H Environmental Education Program—one of the nation's largest providers of residential environmental education. Located in the beautiful Chattahoochee National Forest, and just minutes from the Appalachian Trail, cascading waterfalls, and numerous other recreational opportunities, Wahsega 4-H Center serves as an educational facility for K-12 students immersed in one to three-day field studies.

What You Can Do

As an environmental educator for Wahsega 4-H Center, you'll open the door of curiosity, real life experiential learning and environmental awareness for groups of students immersed in nature and the great outdoors.

Environmental Educators will provide hands-on learning in real world environments and teach classes in earth and life science, survival skills, team building, high & low ropes challenges and pioneer living skills. Other duties include care of captive wildlife in the herpetology lab, curriculum development, assisting in cleanup of facilities at the end of each session and 2 to 3 hours of KP (Kitchen Patrol) each week.

Positions are offered during the spring and fall seasons; Internships are also available for college seniors.

Benefits include $8.95/hour (salary increase dependent on experience), lodging in separate staff housing (staff is not required to chaperone children overnight) and 12 meals for $70/week (a meal plan is optional), two-week, in-depth paid training in all subject areas, pro deal offers, and complimentary housing at the five other Georgia 4-H Centers.

Individuals with commitment, a genuine interest in child development, dynamic personality, well-developed communication skills, creativity, leadership ability and a bachelor's degree in an outdoor-related field (education, natural sciences, environmental education, biology, forestry, outdoor education) are strongly encouraged to apply.

Successful applicants will be required to authorize a background check which must clear before starting work.
