As a family business started in 1954, Sperry Chalet and Granite Park Chalet are the two hike-in-only lodges in Glacier National Park, Montana. The work is hard and the living conditions are unique. There will be no electricity, no cars, no TV, no mall, no Internet, no time down the mountain. Just rocks and snow and animals and insects and birds and mountain goats and sun and rain and wind and mountain air, great food, a spectacular backyard with plenty of hiking opportunities, a nice paycheck, and lots of memories at the end of it all.
Now seeking a summer hospitality crew of 8-9 individuals to serve as cooks, bakers, waitstaff, dishwashers, and housekeepers for a rustic yet refined guest experience. Contribute your positive attitude to the team operating this National Historic Landmark lodge. Go into the wilderness and perform the simple acts of caring for where you live. Make sure everyone is well fed and has clean cozy rooms to sleep in. That is the secret recipe for enabling adventures and making memories! Yes, it is an adventure, and you will tell stories about working at Sperry for the rest of your life. Applicants must make a commitment from June 28th to September 13th, 2024 and be physically, mentally, and medically fit. Compensation includes $987.50/week (plus tips and bonus) along with free room and board. As counterintuitive as it may be for a remote location, enjoying people will be your greatest asset. Meeting new people, serving people, helping others through a place they may not understand, being on a team, working with others. To start the application process, read through the employee handbook (this is to help you understand what you are getting into with this unusual place of work before formally applying!), then fill out the online application. Applications are accepted year-round and it's best to apply by April 1st.
Did you know? Swan Mountain Outfitters (found in the Camp Jobs channel) provides daily horseback rides to Sperry Chalet. Their services are available for both overnight guests and day riders. The corral is near the trailhead at Lake McDonald Lodge.
Attention Chefs! • Sperry Chalet is also on the lookout for a Cook and a Cook Assistant for this upcoming summer. Apply now or connect with Kevin Warrington for more info!
VISIONS Service Adventures hires exceptional people who are driven to make positive change in the world through working hard and being role models for young people. Leaders understand that having their own needs met can be the result of serving others and doing an excellent job. Typical leader teams include outdoor educators, teachers, grad students, returned Peace Corps volunteers, adventurers, and other individuals who understand that the most immersive work can be the most rewarding. At least one carpenter is hired for Montana and the BVI. Most teams include six leaders, keeping a 1 to 4/5 leader to student ratio. The days are spent at project sites, cultural activities, and outings. Leaders both participate in and supervise all aspects of the experience. Each program session lasts from one to four weeks, and there are multiple sessions per summer with days off between. Longer sessions also include a day off per week. Leaders receive a salary stipend, meals, lodging, and round-trip travel for international sites or a travel stipend for U.S. sites. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age, CPR/first aid certified prior to program start (can be obtained after the hiring process), and have Spanish skills for Dominican Republic/Peru programs. Special qualifications, such as advanced medical or lifeguard certifications and carpentry skills are beneficial but not required. Apply online or email Josephine Foster with your questions.
